Key Laws and regulations
Several key laws and regulations protect voting rights in India. The Constitution of India, particularly Articles 324 to 329, outlines the framework for conducting elections and safeguarding voting rights. The Representation of the People Act, 1950 and 1951, further details the electoral process, including voter eligibility, election conduct, and the resolution of electoral disputes.
All Indian people who are eligible to vote have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and take part in the political process as several states in the country are now holding elections. All Indian citizens above the age of 18, regardless of caste, religion, social class, or economic standing, are entitled to vote under the Indian Constitution. Except in a few cases, all Indians are accorded this right. You have specific rights and privileges as a voter, guaranteed by the Constitution, which protects voter rights. It also establishes the terms on which citizens are entitled to this right. Voting is a legally provided right; it is not a basic one.
